On a sweltering 90°+ Saturday, July 9th,
1977, St Louis was the host, at Busch stadium, to the semi-legendary concert "Superjam
'77".
Contemporary Productions booked an odd mix of hard rock and Gypsy.
Others on the bill were: Ted Nugent, REO Speedwagon, Head East, & Judas Priest.
Gypsy musicians that day consisted of Rico, Randy Cates, Stan Kipper, Jim
Johnson, and filling in for Owl was Barry Kay.
Kay was from the St Louis area.
Kay only played with Gypsy this
one concert.
St Louis magazine:
"SUPERJAM ’77 The Superjam concert of 1977 featured a lineup of Ted Nugent, REO Speedwagon, Head East, Judas Priest and Gypsy. It was no Woodstock, but a crowd of around 45,000 rocked out, got high, got drunk and flicked Bics—and that was just the chaperones."
Probably the last live Rico performance.
